May/June Newsletter: Flowers up from concrete

It's been great to see our church in action this month! I'm so glad to be surrounded by people who love Jesus and their neighborhoods! This weekend we serve Baltimore's mothers of murder victims. If you can help this Saturday 5pm contact Jimi 413.329.6183 thanks.

Here's a few prayer topics and info on our upcoming events:

Pray for-
-Peace, end to violence and many coming to faith in Jesus. There’s one true source of hope.
-Wisdom, for all involved as we serve the city neighborhoods for long term solutions.
-Clarity for parents/teachers having conversations with kids and teens.
-Coordination and strategic connections between all community leaders to get help for those who need it most.
-Jobs, our city is in need of economic growth and entry level careers for our city residents.
-First Responders, our police, firefighters, and paramedics live in harm’s way and they also need support.

Here's bit of perspective on why loving our neighbors matter:

Let's get outside and enjoy our city!

    ChristmasMarketAffordable Christmas Market

Dec 6th 12-2pm at The Village Church 37th St and Roland Ave

Let’s serve families going through a financial challenge this Christmas season!

We provide toys they can choose from, for their personal Christmas shopping for their children. The toys will be at ¼ the retail price and listed at $1, $3, or $5. On site, we provide a place they can shop, enjoy free snacks and hot cocoa while their children are cared for and their gifts are wrapped if they choose. Also, they can talk with any of us and receive prayer if they would like.

Please consider who you can invite. We will have quality toys for infant through elementary school age children. This is a perfect way to graciously extend a relationship you may have in the neighborhood, at school, or at work. We will have flyers you can use to invite parents in need, at church ASAP.

Love gives. Please consider volunteering for this wonderful event.

We need people who can care for the children. We need people to help organize and oversee the toy rooms. We need people who can offer prayer. We need people who can gift wrap.

We could use some baked food items on the day of the event. We need more gift wrap, but not very much.

    Eulalia Bell Memorial Service

A wonderful member of our church family, Eulalia Bell, went to be with Jesus this past Sunday after a battle with cancer. Her daughter Jamera, sister Lisa Beatty, and all of the family have been such an important part of our church over the past few years.

This month many of our church members are suffering the loss of a loved one or another life challenge. God loves you. Rebecca and I love you. God sees what you’re going through and can be a real help, a source of strength. You are not alone. There’s no better time for us to be a church family. Let’s love on each other, pray, be a real help, and send an encouraging word to each other this week. Here’s a few Bible studies that I’ve prepared for you to help: http://bit.ly/1EyMghg

Everyone in the church is invited to each of the events listed here, to remember Eulalia. Please come and show love to your spiritual family.

We need your help with providing food for a late lunch after the burial Monday.

We can help as a church family with this meal for the family, friends, and church family of Eulalia (that’s you!), in one or all of the following ways; with the set up, serving of, providing of, and/or clean up of food. Please come ready to help and enjoy time together.

    November 2014 News

Well, I am looking forward to getting my knee fixed (with surgery) this Thursday. Don’t be alarmed, but I expect to be doing my Christmas shopping on crutches this year. Physical therapy starts Monday and I’m feeling good about it.

Rebecca and I love you guys and pray for you each week. Please feel free to let us know how we can be praying for you.

You won’t want to miss this Sunday’s message:
“What will put things right?” Come ready to listen. It will be life changing, yes – life changing, seriously. It will be a perfect Sunday to bring a friend – in particular someone who feels they are “far from God”. This series is a great opportunity for you to ask questions!

If you’ve missed a Sunday, here’s the four questions we’re looking at:
    1. Where did we come from?     From God: the One and the relational
    2. Why did things go so wrong?     Because of sin: bondage and condemnation
    3. What will put things right?     Christ: incarnation, substitution, restoration
    4. How can I be put right?     Through faith: grace and trust
Our key verse is: “For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes,” Romans 1:16
Our focus is: A deeper understanding of the good news results in lasting life change.
Remember you can always listen to previous messages on iTunes or at:
Please remember that you are invited to watch the Ravens games with us. We enjoy lunch, laughs, and wins! Please let us know that you’re coming and we’ll coordinate lunch.
Below I have included some important information about upcoming activities. Jump in! Get involved with the life of your friends, your fellow believers, the church!
Thank you for all of your help and for praying me through this recovery!
