City Kids Meeting Tonight
Thank you for filling out the recent survey! We have compiled all of the information and we have some ideas regarding City Kids that we would like to share with you all. Please join us for a Zoom call tonight at 8:30pm. This meeting is for parents/guardians of children 0yr-5th grade, current CK volunteers, and people interested in serving in City Kids at some point in the future (to learn about the different types of volunteer opportunities – including just hanging out with the kids while they play and do activities). Uncle Jay’s Memorial Service
Our dear friend and fellow church member, Jay Hamby (Malinda’s “Uncle Jay”), passed away peacefully last Saturday. Malinda, Steve, and Ashlyne have provided him a wonderful home for several years. Now he’s enjoying a heavenly reunion with his family and friends. Please join us in celebrating his life this coming Sunday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville MD. Our memorial will begin at 2 pm, and there will be a viewing time of greeting preceding it, starting at 1 pm. Online condolences may be offered at www.haightfuneralhome.com

Sunday Church Service
We are looking forward to our in-person church service Sunday, May 15th, at 9am! This coming Sunday we will open up a time of communion for the Lord’s Supper. We will also provide more time for prayer in our worship service. Please come ready to interact with God and each other in a meaningful way. Please feel free to come into the sanctuary before 9am as it opens at 8am. You can pray and worship as the team prepares. Our services are only 75 minutes long. We would like to make the most of our time together. Thank you.
City Kids Class
We are excited to minister to your children this Sunday! Please use this form to sign up your children (age 3yr – 4th grade) for class. The City Kids ministry needs more volunteers! If you are interested in joining the City Kids Volunteer Team please attend our meeting tonight on Zoom (details above).
After Church Fellowship
If the weather is nice this Sunday after church, let’s hangout again! We’ll plan to meet up near the playground across the street from church, this coming Sunday morning after the service. There will be a small table set up with drinking water, hand sanitizer, napkins, plastic cups, plasticware, etc to help anyone who wants to bring their own food/drinks. In this way, we could facilitate a little more of the wonderfully positive social time that has been happening after service. It is wheelchair accessible. We still have access to our church bathrooms on Sundays.

Good to Know
Food Pantry and Church Welcome Area
Hampden UMC is the host site for a food pantry effort between several area churches. For a variety of reasons, they will no longer be taking in food from one source that required the locked doors and extra reporting. This will make it possible to open up more of a “welcome area” in that space. To supplement the previous food source they would welcome the donation of dry goods and nonperishable food such as pasta, rice, and canned foods. Such items can be brought in on a Sunday. After our service, please be careful to place the items on a table in that area in a way that’s easy for organization.
Daily Bible Reading
Every day this year, Pastor Ben is sharing a daily suggested reading of a few verses from a Psalm or Proverb. The Psalms are a collection of songs exalting God. It serves as a book of prayer and praise. The Psalms help us in our relationship with God. The Proverbs help us in our relationship with this world, in our daily life. The daily readings can be found here or received as a daily email. Click here to subscribe to receive the daily posts via email.
Pastor’s Weekly
What contrast we see in Proverbs 11:19-28, in how God related to those who follow Him and those who reject Him! The consequences of living independently from God are severe. The benefits of serving God are endless. Peter gives caution to us (in direct response) in 1 Peter 4:18. We’re called to live this life, here and now, by a value system of priority on serving God. Eugene Peterson’s paraphrase of verses 24 and 25 is excellent, “The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller. The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped.” Generosity is easy when you walk with the wisdom that all earthly resources are temporary.
