What’s New?
Volunteer Opportunity
On Saturday August 27th, at 1pm, a memorial service will be held at the church facility for a couple of Hampden neighbors. We would welcome two volunteers to assist the family in bringing their flowers and decorations from the curbside into the sanctuary and setting up (likely arriving at noon). If the two volunteers are able to stay to serve as ushers that would be perfect. If not, we would also welcome two volunteers to do so starting at 12:45pm. The service should be from 1pm to 2pm at the latest. There will be no food etc, as the graveside will be in Aberdeen. Please contact Pastor Ben if you are interested in volunteering.
Helping Families New to Baltimore
After consideration from our elders and leaders, we have decided to partner with an organization of churches to support Afghan families who are newly arrived in Baltimore. In addition to making a financial contribution, our church would also like to help assist these families in additional ways. If you are interested in donating furniture please contact Aaron Mayhew at info@loveaaco.org or (443) 848-3417.
This Week
Life Group Tomorrow Night
This week, Life Group will be held on Thursday at 7pm, at the Weybrights’ home. Hope to see you there!
Sunday Church Service
The past few Sundays we’ve talked about God’s love for us and our response to God. How is this affecting your week? We would like to hear from you during our upcoming Sunday service, August 14th, at 9am! If you missed last week’s message, you can watch it here on CHC’s Facebook page. Due to many families traveling this week, there will be no City Kids class this Sunday, but there will be an activity for children to work on during the service.

Good to Know
Food Pantry and Church Welcome Area
Hampden UMC is the host site for a food pantry effort between several area churches. For a variety of reasons, they will no longer be taking in food from one source that required the locked doors and extra reporting. This will make it possible to open up more of a “welcome area” in that space. To supplement the previous food source they would welcome the donation of dry goods and nonperishable food such as pasta, rice, and canned foods. Such items can be brought in on a Sunday. After our service, please be careful to place the items on a table in that area in a way that’s easy for organization.
Daily Bible Reading
Every day this year, Pastor Ben is sharing a daily suggested reading of a few verses from a Psalm or Proverb. The Psalms are a collection of songs exalting God. It serves as a book of prayer and praise. The Psalms help us in our relationship with God. The Proverbs help us in our relationship with this world, in our daily life. The daily readings can be found here or received as a daily email. Click here to subscribe to receive the daily posts via email.
Pastor’s Weekly
In Psalm 91:9-16, we see that as we make God our safe place, we will not be overcome by the evil of this world. When we call on God, He will answer. God will rescue those who love Him. God will be with people who trust in Him. Choosing a life of wholehearted devotion to God is one way that we can “make the Lord our refuge.” We love God with the best of our energy. We rely on God completely. In this way, we find promise and protection.
