Good to Know
Bible College Classes
Portland Bible College classes are available online. You can take classes for credit or simply for the sake of learning (independent study). You will see that the Basic Doctrine class Pastor Ben mentioned on Sunday is listed here among the beginning classes.
Helping Families New to Baltimore
After consideration from our elders and leaders, we have decided to partner with an organization of churches to support Afghan families who are newly arrived in Baltimore. In addition to making a financial contribution, our church would also like to help assist these families in additional ways. If you are interested in donating furniture please contact Aaron Mayhew at info@loveaaco.org or (443) 848-3417.
Food Pantry and Church Welcome Area
Hampden UMC is the host site for a food pantry effort between several area churches. For a variety of reasons, they will no longer be taking in food from one source that required the locked doors and extra reporting. This will make it possible to open up more of a “welcome area” in that space. To supplement the previous food source they would welcome the donation of dry goods and nonperishable food such as pasta, rice, and canned foods. Such items can be brought in on a Sunday. After our service, please be careful to place the items on a table in that area in a way that’s easy for organization.
Daily Bible Reading
Every day this year, Pastor Ben is sharing a daily suggested reading of a few verses from a Psalm or Proverb. The Psalms are a collection of songs exalting God. It serves as a book of prayer and praise. The Psalms help us in our relationship with God. The Proverbs help us in our relationship with this world, in our daily life. The daily readings can be found here or received as a daily email. Click here to subscribe to receive the daily posts via email.
Pastor’s Weekly
We see in Psalm 107:1-9, that God’s love for people is constant, outlasting the challenges we face and even our failures. It is supernatural in faithfulness compared with the fickle nature of human love. Have you received the redemption of Jesus? Talk about it! The love of our God brings a supernatural refreshing. It provides what we need. Tell someone. We should thank God, out loud, for His goodness and unfailing love. God spoke to me through Psalm 107:7 with direction for urban church pioneering. These words reveal the heart of God toward hurting people and His plans for cities. We can learn from what God has done in the past.
