Devoted

Dec 30, 2018

“Seek the Lord your God with all your heart and soul.” – David in 1 Chronicles 22:19

Jesus calls us to wholehearted devotion.

“You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today.” – Moses in Deuteronomy 6:5

“You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind,” – Jesus in Matthew 22:37-40

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.” – Jesus in Matthew 6:33

Devoted: committed, loyal, caring, concerned, dedicated, devout, doting, dutiful, faithful, loving, steadfast, thoughtful, true, zealous

Not: apathetic, dishonest, disloyal, faithless, false, hateful, inattentive, indifferent, uncaring, unenthusiastic, unfaithful, unreliable, untrustworthy

Wholehearted devotion

Wholehearted – showing complete commitment with sincerity

Devotion – love, loyalty, or enthusiasm for, allegiance, dedication

Today we choose to love God with a complete commitment. Holding nothing back we give our lives to God.

Bible “with all your heart”:

·         Love God Deuteronomy 6:4-5  Matthew 22:37-40

·         Trust God  Proverbs 3:5-6

·         Obey God  Psalm 119:34, 69  1 Chronicles 29:19

·         Praise God  Psalm 111:1  138:1

·         Rejoice  Zephaniah 3:14

·         Work for God  Nehemiah 4:6  Colossians 3:23  2 Chronicles 19:9

How is this possible? How can we change from being self-first oriented to being “Jesus-first” oriented, serving God with wholehearted devotion? Setting aside time to pray: “Search me O God and know my heart.” – Psalm 139:23-24

What should we do? Ask for God’s help. Confess sin and need. Receive and believe. Seek first God’s way with wholehearted devotion. Follow Jesus.
