We celebrate Palm Sunday with an inspiring message from Chris Vazquez, our worship leader.
Matthew 21:8-11
Authority- What is it? What does it mean?
Exousia ? indicates jurisdiction (right), force (might), privilege (honor), capacity, freedom, influence, and force
Authority ? Latin “Auctor” ? Originator (Creator)
Step One: Give UP our bias of authority
Our experience with worldly authority is usually laden with the following issues:
No right No capacity
No might No freedom
No honor No influence
Step One: Give UP our bias of authority
Jesus has RIGHT
Jesus has MIGHT
Jesus has HONOR
Jesus has CAPACITY
Jesus has FREEDOM
Jesus has INFLUENCE
Divine Right – Matthew 28:18-20 3:16-17
Divine Capacity – Mark 1:21-28
Divine Might – Mark 4:35-41
Divine Honor – Came to earth as a baby, Lived as a carpenter, Died on a cross
Divine Freedom
Divine Influence – Mark 11:4-10
Step Three: Give OUT Jesus’s authority
Building our identity in Jesus.
Accepting his authority.
Jesus wrote the rulebook.
Leaning on his authority.
Understanding that all of OUR power comes
from the author of our salvation (therefore it is not our own).
Mark 16:15-20
