Many people brought their sick friends and family to the twelve apostles because they were performing many miracles. The High Priest called together their elders because the teaching that Jesus had been raised from the dead was in direct contradiction to his own teaching. An angel freed the apostles from prison. This high council had the apostles beaten and they ordered that the apostles never speak of Jesus again. They released the apostles in hope that God was not involved in this teaching about Jesus and that it would amount to nothing. Grateful that they could identify with the suffering of Jesus, the apostles continued to teach about Jesus the Messiah publicly in the Temple and house to house. These “apostles” were friends of Jesus, sent by Jesus to speak of “Good News” forgiveness, helping people in need.
