Psalm 119:169-176

Wrapping up this amazing poem (about the value of God’s Word) the author calls out to God. With wholehearted devotion, he asks God for help. In life, I can wander from my relationship with God and become aimless. May God help me return to Him. Let my mouth express appreciation for our Creator, my Good Shepherd, and His faithful guidance. I will not allow myself to forget the Word of God. It brings life to me. I will value it more than anything else. Psalm 119 is a helpful encouragement for this relationship.

Hebrews 7:11-28

We look to Jesus for spiritual leadership. Hebrews 7 points to God’s revelation to David (in Psalm 110:4 and to Isaiah in Isaiah 11:1) that the Messiah would come from David’s lineage. This is outside the ancestral requirements of Israel’s priests from the tribe of Levi. We see that Melchizedek is an example of this exceptional priesthood. Like Melchizedek, Jesus Christ is a priest-king of peace and justice, living forever and able to save those who come to God through Him. Jesus Christ our Savior brought to fulfillment the priesthood of Levi. Jesus Christ now guarantees the New Covenant agreement with God, for us. Jesus lives forever and is now making intercession for us to God. How does this inform your prayer?

Ezekiel 10; 11; 12

God reveals to Ezekiel that when His people have filled His land with murder and injustice…when they have worshipped other things in His Temple, His glorious presence will leave. After hundreds of years of rebellious rejection of God, idol worship, oppression of the poor, and senseless violence God is bringing judgment on the Israelites and removing His manifest presence from His Temple. Their place of worship would not be the same. It would be destroyed. God promised to remove corrupt leaders. God predicted a restoration of those who were in exile. In Ezekiel 11:18-19, God promised to respond to repentance by giving people a new spiritual heart. Once again God had Ezekiel provide a message through a public display. God promised to fulfill each of His prophetic messages. This would include a dramatic change of heart and a unity of new purpose. They would become sensitive and responsive to God. Ezekiel’s ministry included a call for people to repent and choose restoration before God brought judgment for violence.
