Romans 8:5-11
The Holy Spirit is bringing about that which is impossible for you in your own strength alone…your ability to follow.
“Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.” – Ephesians 4:23
“And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.” – Ephesians 4:30
How do we follow the Holy Spirit? What are the results of following the Holy Spirit? What will it look like?
1. We willingly submit to the shaping influence of the Holy Spirit on our thoughts and attitudes.
2. We now desire to please and not grieve the Holy Spirit.
3. We choose to follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit in our actions and how we live.
Galatians 5:16-18 and following contrast 19-26
“The Holy Spirit is given to all who come to Christ, and the Spirit sets us free from self-centeredness to live for God and for others.” – Lausanne Covenant
“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
How do we follow the Holy Spirit? What does this mean to us today? What are the results of following the Holy Spirit? How do we know that we are being led by the Holy Spirit?

2. We now desire to please and not grieve the Holy Spirit.
3. We choose to follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit in our actions and how we live.
4. Others recognize that we are becoming less selfish and more loving.
5. Others recognize that we are growing in the areas of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
“The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” – Galatians 5:22-23
The Holy Spirit strengthens us and communicates to Father God with us.
Romans 8:26-28
God’s powerful love will sustain you and bring about victory.

2. Live with a new desire to please and not grieve the Holy Spirit.
3. Confess and forsake sin, receive forgiveness, and commit to loving devotion.
4. Choose to follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit in our actions and how we live.
5. Share the journey with others.
