Jeremiah 23:5-6
We can all grow in our understanding of the perfect ruler that King Jesus is and respond by asking God to shape us to be more like Jesus and to shape our world in this way.
This Advent season, we are celebrating the arrival of Jesus Christ our King. We are learning more about and responding to five characteristics of King Jesus: Humble, Suffering, Victorious, Savior, Perfect. We will pray together, asking God to show more of each characteristic in our world today.
This Christmas Eve we celebrate King Jesus = Perfect Goodness. “King Jesus is perfect in goodness.”
Perfect, as in ideal: being entirely without flaw or fault, excellent, immaculate, superb
Good, as in reasonable: based on sound reasoning or information, reliable, trustworthy, solid,
Good, as in nice: conforming to a high standard of morality or virtue, honorable, ethical, honest, worthy,
Good, as in okay: being to one’s liking, alright, fine, satisfactory, agreeable, pleasing, delightful, pleasant,
Good, as in favorable: expressing approval, positive, appreciative, approving, complimentary, supportive,
Jeremiah 23:5-6 “The days are coming,” says the Lord, “when I will raise up a good branch in David’s family. He will be a king who will rule in a wise way; he will do what is fair and right in the land. In his time Judah will be saved, and Israel will live in safety. This will be his name: The Lord Does What Is Right.” – Jeremiah 23:5-6 NCV
Righteous – good, right, truthful, lawful, morally pure, ethically right, vindicated, justified, in right-standing relationship with all others,
King Jesus is perfectly good, and in him we find our goodness.
1. King Jesus is perfectly good.
King Jesus = Perfectly Good as the Ruling Leader above all others on earth.
“Righteous Branch, he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely, And this is the name by which he will be called: ‘The Lord is our righteousness.’” – Jeremiah 23:5-6 ESV
2. In him we find our goodness.
By receiving King Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, we also receive a new spiritual heart, life, cleansing from the guilt & shame of our past mistakes and a freedom from the compulsion to return to them.
“He will be called, ‘The Lord is our righteousness’”. – Jeremiah 23:5-6 ESV our position in relationship with
King Jesus is perfect in his ruling Lordship and worthy of our wholehearted devotion.
1 Timothy 1:15-17 “15 This saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance: ‘Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners’—and I am the worst of them. 16 But I received mercy for this reason, so that in me, the worst of them, Christ Jesus might demonstrate his extraordinary patience as an example to those who would believe in him for eternal life. 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.” – 1 Timothy 1:15-17 CSB
King Jesus is perfectly good, and in him we find our goodness.
As we receive salvation from King Jesus, our truthful, morally pure, ethically right, right-standing relationships increase.
What do we learn about King Jesus?
King Jesus is perfectly good, and in him we find our goodness.
This Christmas Eve we celebrate King Jesus = Perfect Goodness.
Be like Jesus. Follow Jesus. We can all grow in our understanding of the perfect ruler that King Jesus is and respond by asking God to shape us to be more like Jesus and to shape our world in this way.
What should we do now?
1. Read today’s Scriptures looking for a clearer picture of King Jesus.
2. Write your description of King Jesus as our Perfectly Good Ruler.
3. Receive salvation, your perfect goodness, from King Jesus.
4. Pray asking God to help you become more like King Jesus.
5. Write a prayer topic list of how our world can become more like the Kingdom of Jesus.
What do we pray for?
1. God, please help us better understand the perfect ruling leadership of King Jesus.
2. God, please help us see specific ways in which our thoughts, emotions, motives, values, decisions, and actions can become less selfish, growing more like Jesus.
3. God, please help us live in this goodness in our daily activities at home, work, or school.
4. God, please show us how we can bring more people into this kind of relationship with you.
5. God, please bring about a change of heart, for perfect goodness, in the leaders of our businesses, organizations, neighborhoods, city, state, federal government, and the governments across the world.
6. God, please bring a value of peaceful goodness to the leaders of nations at war, or considering war.
